I completely agree with all of your statements and how we can give children knowledge to be healthy and active. Unfortunately, children are being denied their physical activity time. This could be due to being disruptive in the classroom or homework is not completed, so the children are punished and their recess time is taken away from them. In the book, “The Read-Aloud Handbook”, by Jim Trelease, he discusses not only the benefits of reading aloud to children, but the difference that Finland has with the United States. In the book, Trelease states, “…there are fifteen minutes of recess for every forty-five minute class…” Finland’s obesity rate, from the OECD 2012, is 5-17 years old for females 19.1% and males are 23.6%.
