The Ravens Monologue

Decent Essays
It’s lost! Scarpered!
Today was going to be my day.
Everything's sabotaged, unchangeable now.
Time to sulk, lips inverted and all.

The long brown trench coat.
Ruffled, explored lavishly.
But no luck! Palms shake, hitting bare pockets.
Sweat trickles discouragingly.

Squawks above overshadow the mind.
A family of Ravens taunt me.
Taunting the rot of fortune;
Parallel to the yawn of the golden sunset.

The heart clenches.
It’s her.
Eyes shackled to the bliss of foolishness.
Knees feel like playdough.

Spotted! Great!
She asks me a question,
Pointing at the movies.
YES! I smirk at the Ravens.

Each of the two stanzas has a different energy. In the first stanza, the eagle is very calm, ready to pounce, with a lot potential energy, sitting on the steep cliff. The author describes it as “Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.” In the second stanza the mood goes from calm to drastic, quickly. In the poem, lines 4 and 5, state “He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls.”…

Disconcerted by Booker’s expression, Tom’s brow drew into a confused frown before realization dawned and with a yelp, he cupped both hands over his groin. Embarrassment heated his face, flaming his cheeks a bright shade of amber, and he cursed his misfortune. Once again he had made a fool of himself in front of Booker and once again, his pride lay in tatters. It was becoming an unwelcome habit, and he ruefully wondered why the universe had decided to make him the butt of its jokes. Inching backward, he grabbed his comforter off the bed and quickly draped it around his naked body, covering his nakedness.…

It’s been a day or two since we’ve left this room. I’m lost and enraptured by the fragility surrounding our isolation. I spend much of my time counting things. I count the slats on your window blinds, I count the clothes scattered on your bedroom floor, I count the scars on your body. I count every different language and color I could learn to love you in.…
