In this story the main character has a problem with Fortunato, it’s said that Fortunato did wrong to the narrator's family. Because the narrator feels offended by Fortunato, he leads him into his family catacombs where he handcuffs and leave him behind. After Fortunato is handcuffed the narrator runs out, builds up a brick wall and leaves his friend to die. Now the story has the element of death, tying it straight to the first theme.Without the sudden murder of Fortunato this story would not have been able to connect to the theme. The fifth and final story is The Fall of the House of Usher. In this story there are three characters, the narrator, Roderick Usher, and Madeline Usher. Throughout the story it’s said that both the Usher characters suffer from some sort of illness that is slowly taking their lives. Near the end Roderick thinks Madeline is dead and buried her. She comes back from the ‘dead’ and attacks Roderick, killing them both. After both deaths the story finally connects to the theme of death.
