Introduction: Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, critic, and editor that had many famous poems like The Raven, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Tell Tale Tell Heart. He is best known for his poems and his short stories, mostly the tales of mysteries and the macabre. Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809 and died on October 7, 1849. He was the first well known American writer to try to earn a living with writing alone which is normally very difficult. It resulted in a financially difficult life and career. Poe´s parents names were Eliza Poe and David Poe Jr. In 1810, one year after Poe was born Poe's father left and never came back. His mother died in 1811, Poe was only two years old when his mother died leaving him with no parents. He was left and was raised in the house John Allan who never actually adopted him but would only be his foster parent. He was eventually kicked out of his house because of bad debts and financial support. He was abandoned and left for Boston. Edgar Allan Poe wasn’t really prepared for the type of work that he did. He wasn’t really prepared because his parents died before he was three and they couldn’t help him and his foster parent didn’t care to help him and eventually kicked him out so that left Edgar Allan Poe to figure it out by himself. Also he introduced the new genre, gothic and made it okay to write about it in poems because most of his poems were about that. Introducing an okay way to write gothic themes in poems inspired many other poets to write about gothic themes and they were very thankful for Poe.
Conclusion: I think Edgar Allan Poe is considered an important historical figure because he had many accomplishments including all of his famous poems he published, introducing new types of poem writing and he is a role model for someone who likes writing because he always tried hard and didn't give up even after all the deaths he had to face.
