Poe uses isolation by placing his narrator all alone in a chamber at midnight. "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore. While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door. Only this, and nothing more."' (Poe ln 1-6). The way that Poe purposefully mentions that it is a midnight dreary creates a mood of fear. Thought is what the mind thinks about, and something that you may not say aloud. Poe uses thought very well throughout his poem. The entire poem is about the thoughts of the narrator, and his memories of Lenore. This creates suspense, because the constant worry of the narrator makes the readers also begin to worry and wonder. Everything that the main character is feeling, the readers are also feeling. Hitchcock does not use this term very well because he makes his audience to determine what the characters are thinking. While, Poe directly tells us through the thoughts of the narrator of "The Raven". Hitchcock uses disaster so well, that it leaves his audience in shock. He can use disaster over and over again, without his audience getting bored of it. Every time there is a disaster it is expected to happen at some time, but that time is unknown. For example, when the birds attack over and over again... The audience is fully aware that it will keep happening, but have no clue at what time exactly. This creates suspense, because it leaves the audience wondering what will happen next. Poe does not use disaster the wha that Hitchcock does. This is because Hitchcock uses actual things that happen that cause a disaster. While, Poe uses previous disaster. This is not at all the way that Hitchcock uses disaster. The way that each author uses disaster, and thoughts creates suspense in completely different ways. Suspense is created
