1. The mate selection techniques depicted in the 2 videos are very different. In “The kidnapped Bride” the men actually physically kidnapped the women and most of the time keep the women until they get to the point where they no longer resist the kidnapping and accept the fact that they need to marry the man. In a few instances, such as the one depicted in the video, they let the girl go after a large amount of resistance but they curse the girl saying things like “her child will be an alcoholic” or “her mother-in-law will be cruel”. The women have virtually no say in who they will end up with. The woman shown in the beginning of the video had a boyfriend who she loved but still accepted the man who kidnapped her in the end. The parents of the man often encourage the kidnapping and the parents of the woman often accept the kidnapping because they …show more content…
I predict the marriages that result from kidnapping brides would be more stable and last longer. Similar to last week’s discussion the women don’t really have a way out of the marriages so they get used to it and accept that the man will be their husband. I believe that the Social Ecological Model can contribute to this. The model explains that the environment that the couple lives in can greatly affect the couple. In the societies where brides are kidnapped it is a norm so the community greatly supports it. Over time this support can lead the woman to accept it. The micro- and mesosystems surrounding the couple are usually supportive while the macrosystem may not always be completely supportive the government has bigger things to worry about so the act of bride kidnapping is not high on their list of things to take care of. Often times the older women of the family are very supportive of the marriage even though at one time they were kidnapped brides who may not have wanted to marry the man they ended up with. So I believe this can have a large effect on the bride and cause her to embrace the marriage and her

There was this white male trying to take a bike, most everyone just walked past, but every once in a while, somebody stepped up. People were even trying to help him cut the chain. The black male was very different. Mostly everyone that walked by had something to say about it, a lot more than the white male.…

In the video we see alot of people who were sterilized as punishment to whatever they had done and that is simply ridiculous. We had 8 year olds being sterilized because their teacher thought they were flirting with a boy. It is very cruel and unusual punishment yet the United States still allowed for it to happen. Even things such as cases where a girl gets raped and is sterilized because they say she was the one that put it upon herself. This is most definitely cruel and unusual punishment from the government.…

With the title Final Girl I was expecting a twist on the Slasher genre. As the Final Girl is a term from the genre to refers to the heroine who survives and defeats the killer. Often with wit and determination rather than brute force. Which it absolutely isn't, which while initially disappointing Final Girl turned out to be worth every minute of its 84 minute run time. What it turn out to be was a well executed dark thriller with a splash of horror overtones.…

Who are the Japanese War Brides? After World War II, approximately 10,200 marriages between Japanese women and American soldiers stationed in Japan were registered through the American consulate in Japan. At a time when non-white Americans were still faced heavy discrimination and Japanese-American citizens were still suffering from the effects of internment camps, the Japanese war bride was featured in popular media, as well as the subject of many sociological studies.…
