Christian Beliefs About Heaven

Improved Essays
The idea of heaven and that God will treat people in the afterlife according to how they lived their life on earth is an issue for most Christians in a subtle way. Even though heaven is frequently brought up in the Bible, heaven is known by other names. Christians therefore have very different ideas about Heaven. My topic is about Christians and their belief in the heaven. Heaven is an important part of Christian beliefs, although heaven is defined by other names and religions, scripture can give evidence that eternal punishment and reward exist and the belief can help shape someone’s life. One of the biggest challenges that Christians are facing in general is that there is no proven evidence that heaven may or may not exist. Christians believe …show more content…
Throughout the bible, heaven is known as the kingdom of Christ (Ephesians 5:5, King James Version), paradise (Luke 23:43, King James Version), the holy city of Jerusalem (Revelation 21:1, King James Version) and there are many more names that heaven is known as. Although there are different names for heaven, it does not change the overall belief of heaven, but there is a different visual for Christians. For example, the author “A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs” describes how paradise is a garden located between earth and heaven and “is the place of heavenly bliss that has been appointed to receive the spirits of the saints” (Bercot, 1998, p. 498). Christians who pray, will be rewarded and the Christians who have sinned, will go to the everlasting punishment. The author of “A Dictionary of Early Christians Beliefs” writes “Those who believe in Him will be incorruptible and will not be subject to suffering. They will receive the kingdom of heaven” (Bercot, 1998, p. 243). What the author is saying is, obeying God will lead to a rewarding afterlife in Heaven. The author also wrote about disobeying God. “Those who, in this brief temporal life, have shown themselves ungrateful to Him who bestowed life, they will justly not receive from God length of days forever and ever” (Bercot, 1998, p. 243). What the author is saying is, if Christians disobey God and his rules, Christians will have eternal punishment versus a place in

The principal beliefs of Christianity being the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the nature of God and the Trinity, the revelation and the salvation, influence the life of adherents by providing the core foundations to what they are to live their live based upon. Variants of these beliefs are expressed through differing religious perspectives such as Catholicism, Anglicism and Pentecostalism. The divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ is of the belief that Jesus is both fully human and divine; son of God and human. Jesus is the archetype of God, as he was sent as an act of love from God for humanity. The teaching defines Jesus as both a historical, physical figure of the same core of God, as stated in John 1:14 “The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.…

Every Christian has wondered at some point in time what Heaven will be like. A lot of people in the World just view Heaven as a spiritual place where you meet God. Richard Mouw believes Heaven will be a renewed creation that includes an embodied existence and cultural life. In the book “When the Kings Come Marching In” Mouw talks about how society has to transform and change our ideas of how we view things in order to prepare for the Holy City. In doing so we will be ready for Heaven to come.…

For as long as there has even been a theological understanding of the existence of God, heaven and the story of humankind’s beginnings, there has been a conversation about hell. The presence of hell hearkens back to the Old Testament and the concept grows throughout the Bible until the great unveiling of its physical manifestation in the book of Revelation. It is this final understanding of what hell will be that sticks in the minds of many Christians and theologians. In fact, what has been described in the book of Revelation is the basis for the characterization of hell in popular culture and represents imagery that has since persisted through the generations.…

There are many different worldviews when it comes to people’s beliefs, specifically religion. According to Waddell, “a worldview is a foundational set of assumptions to which one commits” (Waddell, 2014). These assumptions influence one’s understanding and interpretation of the world. This is prevalent in Christianity. The Christian worldview has its own beliefs in regards to God, humanity, Jesus, and the restoration that require some analysis and self-reflection in order fully understand the essential elements of the religion.…

There is a famous passage in Second Isaiah, composed during or after the Exile, which is sometimes cited as a Jewish rebuke to the Zoroastrian idea of a dualistic God: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." (Isaiah 45:7) This passage, which is a major source for Jewish speculation on the source of good and evil in the world, denies the Zoroastrian idea of a God who is the source only of "good" and favorable things. The philosophical minds of the two cultures may indeed have recognized each other as fellow monotheists, but this central Jewish doctrine is one which was not learned from the Zoroastrians.…
