Personal Narrative: Rage Against His Machine

Rage Against His Machine I am a member of the Bleeding Green Nation. I have been an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan since before I can remember. Examples of my fidelity to the organization range from an irrational adoration of retired legend Brian Dawkins (AKA Weapon X) to a deep seeded hatred of the Dallas Cowboys. My membership of the bleeding green nation has been a potent influence on my life and there is not a day that goes by where I do not check the latest news. The hiring of Chip Kelly represented a bittersweet moment for me. On one hand, it represented the conclusion of one of the Eagles’ greatest coaches and leaders, Andy Reid. However, on the other hand, the idea of an ‘offensive genius’ running the team was exciting. Now, three years later, even my prejudiced eyes cannot ignore a glaring reality. This type of leadership would be lost on Chip Kelly, whose own players and followers, describe him as an Authoritative Leader (or at the very least a very transactional leader). In a recent interview, an anonymous Philadelphia Wide Receiver declared, “He sees you as a commodity. The more players get that, the better off they 'll be.” This sentiment was echoed by a second player who explained, “He sets the agenda. You don 't follow it, you 're dead to him.” The way Chip Kelly orchestrates roster moves through contingent reward and punishment illustrates his transactional leadership traits. He eradicates successful players who don’t fall immediately into line, such as the Eagles’ all-time rushing leader LeSean McCoy and ostracizes players who voice concerns about his

McManus writes, “Pederson's time as a player in the NFL has served him well in that way, and has been perhaps his biggest asset when it comes to establishing an early connection with his players.” The reader should be well-aware that Chip Kelly never played a snap in the NFL and had a problem connecting with his players. One player stated that there is a new culture with Pederson, and Chip Kelly was always known for his saying “culture beats scheme” which did not turn out so well. McManus also mentions how Pederson’s practices allow them to make corrections, unlike Kelly’s up-tempo practices.…

When Tony got his job as a head coach he took a different approach at coaching than others did. Most NFL coaches yell at their teams and try to teach them with a sense of fear. Tony thought that if he respected them they would do the same towards him, He never yelled and treated everyone on the team the same no matter how good you were. Tony also believed in putting his family before anything, He made sure to give his…

Some people think that if Dallas let go of Jason Garrett, we will have a better record next year. Although Dallas does not have a good record I would not put the blame on all of him. When you are a part of a team it is not just one persons fault, everyone has a little bit to blame. Jerry Jones (owner) is thinking about releasing him and replacing him with Sean Peyton. Sean is currently working with the New Orleans Saints.…

Sitting in the confines of the Miller's Ale House in Tallahassee, I positioned myself in perfect position: on the outside seat of the long, wood bench seat in perfect view of the matchup between the undefeated Green Bay Packers -- my team -- and the San Diego Chargers. In closer proximity was my feast. Nachos piled high with cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, chicken and salsa; cheese curds, a Wisconsin favorite and a tall glass of Angry Orchard hard cider. I set my self up dressed in my old-school, long-sleeved Ray Nietzsche jersey in honor of the throwback jerseys the Pack was wearing from the 1930's and 40's. Soon kick off was upon us.…

Meaning that the performance of the players will not dramatically decrease with the change in coaching. Organizational commitment will be more strongly effected in a negative way because players may experience stress or lose trust in this new program (Colquitt, LePine, & Wesson, 2015). A great example of this possibly occurring would be quarterback and team captain Eli Manning. The only coach Manning has had in his professional career has been Coughlin.…

With the Bucs season continuing on a disappointing spiral from week to week, it is no wonder that rumors are swirling around the water cooler about the job security of some key Buccaneer faculty. And if history plays a role in it, Bucs head coaches, with the exception of a few, rarely make it past the 2 year mark in their position; the longest running being John McKay from 76-84. So what does that mean for our current Head Coach, Koetter? Well, a lot actually, considering the season we have had thus far, as well as his 2 year mark getting a bit closer. Week after week he has said that he needs to coach better, he has shouldered responsibility for the majority of the issues taking place on the field.…

I was born and raised in a modest wooded ranch style home on the outskirts of the rural town Neola, IA. My parents closest relatives resided two hours away in Tekamah, NE. The theme of family importance held common ground amongst my fraternal twin -Sam- and the six other siblings. Whenever the outside world would slam down its hellacious boot called life, we all had each other’s backs to rely on. Growing up, my mom and dad raised us to be humble, contributing members to the society that resided right outside our screen front door.…
