The Radiological Dispersion Device A Radiological Dispersion Device (RDD) is a combination of conventional explosives (dynamite) and radioactive components (The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, 2014). A RDD is any device that causes the resolute diffusion of radioactive material without a nuclear detonation (REMM, 2016).Terrorist who have utilized RDDs have labeled them as dirty bombs (Ready, 2016). However, the United States military recognizes RDDs as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) (Burton, 2006). RDDs are predominately used to disturb the lives and livelihoods of others by contaminating facilities or places where people live and work (The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, 2014). The United States has begun to prepare for a possible radiological threat by investing an abundance of money into radiation detection equipment in order to secure the borders, ports and critical entry cites (Burton, 2006). However, during some of the military operations and tours, a vast amount of soldiers are going to die through, accident, suicide, and vicious gunfire (Lt. Col. Smith, 1999). Hence, Sgt. Douville’s death is an evident reminder that military personnel and their families continuously make sacrifices to defend and protect the United States of America despite its profound impact. Finally, the best counter measure against illogical panic is education (Burton,
