The Racism In The Modern Era

God loves all

One of the many pressing issues of our modern era is racism. This problem surprises very few due to recent and historic racial tensions. Racism goes back hundreds of years in places like America towards blacks, and in Europe towards Muslims and Jews. Unfortunately, even to this day, racism remains very present. Not even a year ago, race riots took place in Ferguson, Missouri. Even in my own life I see racism every day. I have black friends and I occasionally see them bullied due to their skin color. God tells us clearly in John 7:24 that “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” God calls us not to judge others by their race or appearance but by the contents of their hearts and minds. Racism has been a substantial problem in the past, in our modern society and even in my personal life.

Racism left a major mark on our history. Two examples of this happened in America and Europe. In America, due to slavery, many black people came to America from Africa. After the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, all of these people joined American as citizens, no longer as property. This inflamed many feuds between races and fueled segregation.

Examples include the race riots in Ferguson, Missouri and the racism in Europe towards Muslims. The Ferguson riots began a day after a white police officer named Darren Wilson shot a black citizen named Michael Brown. Unrest and riots continued for 2 weeks and 2 days after his death because people thought the officer shot him unjustly. Yet another example of racism in our modern society takes place in Europe between Europeans and Muslims. Many Muslims have moved to Europe in recent years as refugees, and this has made the Europeans uneasy. So far, little violence has taken place, but the tensions have escalated. Obviously, racism remains very prominent in the world

POST #2 Watching Carlos lecture on recitatif, this is an informative and gives us a wider view of how racism goes about and how we are all participants in it no matter what we perceive ourselves to be. He starts by giving us two names and ask us to pick which race the two belong too. And he gives you a few seconds to make your judgment. He then says, if you made a judgement or even thought about who belongs to what race, its shows you identify with race. I will agree with him on that, because if you don’t identify with race, you should not think or make a judgment.…

In the article titled “Modern Racism”, Phil Fontaine challenges a nationalistic view most Canadians have of considering Canada an accommodating and tolerant society. These common myths he challenges include racism not existing in Canada and only bad people being racist. He identifies three types of racism that continue to affect Indigenous peoples and other minority groups in our contemporary society. These types include direct and blatant acts of racism, which is the type that would most likely come to mind when thinking about racism, indirect and subconscious racism, and systemic or institutional racism. The reality is that Canadian society is founded on racism through acts of settler colonialism, which is the physical act of taking land…

Although there were many causes of the Civil War, racism was one of the most impactful. Racism tore the country apart. Many compromises that were made had to do with some form of racism, most commonly, black people and slavery.
