This is the most difficult essay the class has been assigned in my opinion, along with me not knowing a whole lot on the religion. I found the text was quit long and a tad difficult for me to understand at times. The Quran is the sacred book of the Islam tradition. Throughout the text I did realize there was some similarities to Christianity in the laws and in Judaism, focusing on consumption of certain meats. The main difference I seen between Christianity is what Islam think of Jesus.
“Do not cooperate with one another in sin and hostility. And fear God. God is severe in punishment” (Itani, 5:2). This is the Quran’s starting point, which shows that refraining from sin and not violating God’s sacraments is one of the most important things. In the Quran Jesus is not God, just a mere profit before Muhammad came. “The Messiah son of Mary was only a messenger” (Itani 5:75). Jesus has a significance to them, but not the same significance He would in Christianity. Of course, Christianity believing that Jesus is the son of God. Along with the fact that Christians believe in the Holy Trinity, and the Quran compares that concept to ideal worshipping. However, the ideology that Jesus is not God matched with the ideas of Judaism. They also believe their Messiah has yet to come; while Jesus was just a loyal follower and not a King. The Quran goes into detail on what meats are allowed and which are not, which is a concept that is consistent of Judaism. I thought it was very interesting how some religions are so specific on worship, that even what you consume must be an act of worship to that God. While I do not believe Christianity has any strict rules on what one is able to consume and what is forbidden food
