The main idea of this article was that the world population is increasing and we will need to approximately double the amount of crops we produce globally by 2050 in order to feed everyone adequately. This issue has been causing much debate and has pretty much split people into two groups, those who believe we need to implement more conventional large-scale agricultural practices and the opposition who believe we should focus on more local, smaller-scale organic agricultural practices. The article describes five steps to solving the quandary of increasing our food supply without sacrificing the health of our planet. The first step is to freeze agriculture’s footprint. With the growing population we need to find a balance between producing more food and sustaining our planet for the future generations. I believe that the author’s arguments were effective. They provided many facts, figures, and images that help readers better interpret the see why we need to make changes to food production around the world. This topic is one I believe most people know is a problem since most know that the global population is rising, which in turn means we will need to grow more food. I also loved that it talked about a lot of organic and sustainable practices more so than large-scale commercial practices. Also, I completely agree with steps four and five, diet and waste. These are things that people can do on an individual basis and it’s not too difficult. If you cutout meat one day a week and switch at least half of your meat consumption to grass-fed it would make a huge difference if everyone could do this. Also, if people would take their leftovers from restaurants home and eat them rather than letting them get thrown away, that is an easy change that when many people do it, it has a huge
