At Anna High School in Mrs. Quinter’s physics classroom, you would have seen me in the front row deeply engaged into the subject. I occasionally raised my hand to ask a question or add my input into the discussion. I was always the first student out of my seat when we were allowed to begin our labs. I enjoyed working with my classmates to discover new information and be able to implement the results of the experiments to the real world. If I had free time in the lab, I would have conducted my own experiments due to my curiosity. My classmates gravitate towards me when they need assistance on setting up equipment or interpreting a question. I prefer not to give them the answer; instead I helped them navigate toward the correct response. After observing me in the classroom, I would be described as dedicated, positive, and helpful. These qualities are …show more content…
education system. American schools have more technology, easier classes, less freedom for students, pay more attention to sports, and have teachers give out more appreciation than International schools. Even with all of the technology available to me I do not think that I achieved more that someone who did not have a laptop or smartboard access. At Anna High School I was considered hard working, committed, and enthusiastic about science. Some of my teachers were not able to present the subject in a way that was easy to understand and learn. While other teachers could take any information and have the students be fully engaged in that room despite the complex meaning or understanding of the subject. As a future teacher I will take the data from this book and apply it to my future career as a high school chemistry and physics teacher. My new understanding of the American education system will push me to think of new innovative ways to provide a better quality education to the future

I have also learned a lot about the classroom management needed in a science classroom to successfully complete a lesson or unit. Before this semester, I looked at science as a very set subject. However, through CI 449, I have learned that much of science is inquiry based. The students should drive my lesson planning and where the class goes in lessons. This was a very difficult concept for me to understand and apply at the beginning.…

There was a lot of communication between me and my teachers because of no strict policies. In being conscious of consciousness, I remember when I pondered on my existence as a thinking, rational being and my place in the world as a student. Critically examining the things I was taught. Freire made the distinction between a student’s role as “Spectator” and as “procreator”. I could understand and learn better in the other classrooms except from the chemistry classroom because the teachers had greater communicating skills than the first.…

My improvements and lesson plans from this semester are going to be particularly helpful for one class. The class is Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC). I will be teaching the physics side during my semester of student teaching. Most students in this class have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and struggle with math. In addition to the curriculum preparation through my practicum, I feel I have a better understanding of how to scaffold lessons which will help me be a more effective teacher.…

I have recently got out of high school and I know that learning about science and teaching science was two completely different things. Coming into this without any knowledge looked very challenging, I did not know where to start and how to teach the topic. However through guidance from the readings such as Skamp Joyce, C., Bull, A., Hipkins, R., & MacIntyre, B. (2008), Astall, C. (2011), Bull, A. (2012), Education Review Office (2012) and scaffolding from the teacher I now feel more confident towards teaching science.…

Rationale: Going through elementary school I remember doing the 5E model during science. My teacher had all the students engaged during science and I was eager to learn more. Now that I am learning about the 5E inquiry model it makes me realize that students need to be engaged in their learning. I chose this question because I have done some previous lesson plans using the 5E model. I like to teach students by getting them active and having them do a lot of the work instead of listening to me talk the whole time.…

When I teach science in my own classroom, I will try and incorporate some of the ideas I learned from my placement and from the teaching science course. I saw first hand how much students enjoyed being in charge of their learning. Students seemed to grasp difficult concepts such as the different forces of motion and variables because they were able to explore like scientists and ask critical questions. The teacher never put down or ignored an idea from a student. When students made predictions, she always stressed that scientists are constantly making and changing their hypothesizes.…

The scientific studies show there may be styles that students prefer but data suggest students don’t learn more by using the preferred method. I don’t agree with this observation because I have always felt like I comprehended more when the class was doing a hands-on activity or when I had some kind of visual aid. I know other students who learn better from reading the book than going to lecture. The article gave me a new perspective on education. I believe each teacher should do their own research.…

Despite what you might be thinking this is also easier said than done, remember not all students are or learn the same. Because different students learn in different ways a good educator must be able to appeal to all of them equally meaning they have to have proper instructional techniques to utilize. The instructional techniques that I intend on utilizing are lecturing, discussion facilitating, and allowing my students to learn on their own all of which are supported by my educational philosophy. I concluded that these three main techniques would benefit my students through personal experience and advice from current educators. Going through school myself, I always learned best through a lecture based class than I did with a work on your own type class, but I realize this is not true for everyone.…

Although my experience in high school was not necessarily fun, my research project interested me and I wanted to put forth the extra effort for my results section. I was engaged in learning, so as a result, I wanted to learn more. Science has largely been a positive experience for me, both inside and outside of the classroom, and I look forward to continuing that trend in the future. Even after my formal science education, I will still be learning and engaged in the world around me. Not only do I hope to keep this passion alive for myself, but I hope one day I can use my passion for science and learning in my future classroom, so my future students can have the same positive experience with science that I have…

The article begins by stating that the recognition of the importance of science in early childhood education has increased in the last few years. Despite this recognition, there are still concerns about the quality and quantity of science experiences present in the classroom. The authors stated that this lack in quality and quantity is due to the generalist nature of teaching in earl childhood settings and the lack in the teacher 's confidence in her background knowledge of the subject. To increase these areas, they believed that children 's literature should be used as an invitation to science inquiry and play. They cam to this conclusion because other studies had shown how successful using children 's literature was.…
