How often have you heard the comment, “He or she is a born leader?” There are certain characteristics found in some people that seem to naturally put them in a position where they’re looked up to as a leader, and whether; in fact, a person is born a leader or develops skills and abilities to become a leader is open for debate. There are many different types of leaders ranging from the out-spoken leaders, to the lead by example leaders. Each person has a different type of leadership, but at the end of the day they all amount to the same thing. There are some clear characteristics that are found in good leaders, and these qualities can be developed or may be naturally part of their personality. The best leaders are the ones who can figure out how to communicate effectively. For example, even though some people may not like his politics, President Obama is a very effective speaker, and he is able to communicate different points through his speeches. President Obama has the ability to reach different groups of people through the way he speaks, for he is an effective speaker. Having good people skills doesn’t necessary mean that you will become an effective leader, for a good leader is someone who can relate to his audience. The way words are spoken have a certain effect on an audience, and this can influence how they think of you. Being able to relate to the audience is a skill that can be taught, but must also be learned, for it is important for the audience if you can relate to them when you are trying to persuade them of something. During the 2008 election, soon to be President Obama related well to the African American population and received their votes in the election. An effective leader is someone with extreme enthusiasm towards the subject that they are fighting for, and they are able to channel this enthusiasm to influence people. Many people are passionate about different topics, but when delivering a speech or just talking to a small group of people, the speakers with the most enthusiasm are the people who get their point across more often, and therefore are more successful as leaders. The words that you choose are important, for certain groups of people may or may not like certain words. A leader has the ability to change the way he speaks depending on the audience, but still get the same point across in an effective manner. Leaders with the most passion towards the subject are often the ones who become the most predominant in the world today. For example, since President Obama became president, he has relied heavily on how he speaks to influence different groups of people, and even though you may not like his politics, you should respect the uncanny ability he has to deliver a speech.
