For years, American football in high schools has been changing the lives of teenagers from all backgrounds. Out on the field, everyone is given the same equal chance to prove himself, no matter who he is or where he comes from. Not everyone may possess the characteristics to be an effective teammate. However, these characteristics can be learned. Through being a member of a football team, young men develop characteristics that help them mature and become better men in the sport and in life.

Many people in today’s world have a hard time admitting when they mess up, including grown men. However, many men who have been through a football program have learned to own up to their own mistakes. The game of football is filled with mistakes, especially at the high school level. In theory, every play is designed to score. But it isn’t often that you see very high scoring games. For example, according to Aaron Gordon, writer for Sports on Earth, the average score of the winning team is 28 points, which is only four touchdowns. This low scoring happens because with each play, someone likely makes a mistake. It only takes one missed assignment to ruin an entire play. Moreover, a player who tries to place the blame on one of his teammates is much more likely to fail over and over again, not to mention his coach would not be pleased.
