The Quad In the summer going into my freshman year in high school, my family and I had a huge decision to make. I had asked to go away to Riverside Military Academy located in Gainesville, Georgia. The main reason that I chose to attend my freshmen year at Riverside was because my dad graduated from there and I wanted to experience what high school was like for him. It became a very tough decisions as the summer winded down, but I knew that I could get a great experience and learn ways to become a successful young man. Towards the last week of summer, I finally made up my mind about what I was going to do. I decided to leave my home, family, and friends for an entire school year and commit to a once in a lifetime experience. So my journey begins! The first obstacle that we face when we first get there is the R.O.C. Cycle, also knows as Recruit on Campus. The ROC cycle is for new cadets who need to learn important information about the military and the challenges that we had to face. We received a white book that had all the …show more content…
So many students spoke many languages and came from very unique backgrounds. I actually got to learn to speak spanish fluently and learn some other words in different languages such as Chinese, Arabic, and Korean. You can’t find many international students at your average school, but this is a rare thing that Riverside has. I was located in Bravo Company barracks throughout the entire year and was paired up with another cadet to be my roommate. He was from Florida. It was neat being able to see where he grew up and how it was different growing up in Florida then my hometown. I didn’t have any problems with my roommate.
