Motivation for all-inclusive travel can be explained through the push and pull motivation theory. As their names suggest, push factors push travelers to a destination, while pull factors pull them to the destination. All-inclusive resorts have many benefits and attractions that draw tourists of all different interests. Push factors are the desires generated from within a person that cause them to seek solutions to reduce their needs, including the motivation to travel (Mohammad, 2010). Most push factors are intrinsic motivators, such as the desire for escape, rest and relaxation, prestige, health and fitness, adventure and social interaction. Pull factors are destination-generated forces and the knowledge that tourists hold about a destination. They emerge due to the attractiveness of a destination, including beaches, recreation facilities and cultural attractions (Uysal and Jurowski, 1994). Push factors usually initiate travel desire, while pull factors usually determine destination choice. All-inclusive tourism is the ideal choice for a wide range of travelers because of the many different offerings and services they provide. To appeal to both of these travelers, general promotions could be focused on the amenities offered within the resort, such as the spa, scenery, and beaches. Specifically reaching and attracting either push factor will require a multi-ad campaign. For those being pushed towards rest and relaxation, ads focused on the safety and security and the array of offerings for customers so they never have to worry will work best. In contrast, those looking for adventure will be best attracted by the ocean sports, nightlife, and out-of-the-ordinary food items.
