An illegal immigrant (alias alien) is a citizen of a different nationality who enters the United States without permission or someone who is granted a visa and stays here after their visa has expired. Immigrants come from all over the world. They come from Mexico, South America, Europe, Africa and Asian Countries. Many Immigrants cross to the U.S. by trains, boats, cars, semi-trucks, walking, running, swimming, crossing the hot dessert, and even using someone else’s passport or green card. every illegal immigrant will take any job offer. “They are willing to take any kind of work, like landscaping and construction labor, as well as jobs in hotels and restaurants. Much of what they earn is sent back to Mexico to help support members of their families, but they don 't know about the minimum wage laws or about being paid for overtime. Employers often take advantage of this” (Anderson, 17). Many immigrants when crossing to the U.S. come with the illusion of working hard and sending money to their loved one back home. They take any job offer whether it’s inside air conditioning or working under 100F. Since they don’t know english many owners take advantage of that fact they have no clue of employee benefits. They have no idea of what overtime is and even better yet, what minimum wage is. They’re in desperate need that the first thing that is given to them they take. When you’re hungry and have no roof, anything that gets you a start is good. Many women are willing to change their lifestyle and go out and work. Leaving behind the tradition of being a stay home mom and working as gardeners. Most illegal immigrants that come here work in the fields. Getting paid cents per bucket they fill up, they work long hours without any overtime pay or raise. According to U.S. attorney Tina Sciocchetti, "They were getting cheated on their overtime. There were 10 to 20 people living in a house sleeping on air mattresses. They weren 't the greatest employment conditions," (Staunton). When illegal immigrants come to the U.S. they receive job offers with a chance to have a place to stay, most accept. Their given a job and a place to share with up to ten people in the same room. By accepting the job offer they are accepting their terms and conditions. Illegal immigrants are accepting that the employer has a right to charge them for staying at his/her place. They don’t pay them overtime but do charge them for staying at their place even if it is not
