The stressful pace of today 's lifestyle makes the pursuit of happiness feel so distant. Even for the past generations the path to a happy life has been a difficult one. Being a happier person does take a lot of effort but nothing is impossible. When a person is happy his or her life will be much smoother and in most cases healthier and/or longer. According to Sarah Hansen, a writer for Lifehack.org, studies have shown that happy people are 35% less likely to die early compared to people that are unhappy. There are several things that cause unhappiness in a person’s life. The stimulus that causes unhappiness can be fixed by doing the things that make a person happy. This is because the activation of the body’s stress response system has adverse effects on the brain and other bodily systems. Faster heart rate, higher blood pressure and a jump in stress hormones are among some of the factors of “wear and tear” on a person’s bodily systems. In comparison, “When one finds happiness in his or her life, the whole body chemistry if affected and the bodily systems function well” (Abedi par. 9). Thus, when someone is happy his or her health is completely opposite to if he or she was unhappy. Healthy habits, unlike smoking and poor eating habits, are put into action when someone is feeling content with his or her life. Being happy, first of all, takes a lot of practice. Just like anything in life, the change from unhappy to happy does not happen overnight. Being grateful and optimistic about the life presently being lived is one way of being happier. Many things do not go the way someone may have wanted them to, but his or her life could be worse. Finally, finding the purpose for one 's life brings one the happiness that he or she has always wanted. Occupations, skills, and giving to others are some things that people are proud to be remembered by. These things drive people to be everything they want to be.
