There are many mysteries in life. As human beings we try to find meanings behind mysteries. We try to figure out why and or if things exist. Such as religion, hate, born sexual preferences, racial inequalities, sexual inequalities, meaning of life, creationism, racism, etc... We put purpose, meaning and reasoning behind them. Often there are different sides of the topics originating from different point of views. Art is just like these controversial topics. Art is a mystery. More specifically, the purpose of it. Art comes in many different forms: mosaic, painting, masks, jewelry, sculpture, baskets, music, photography, video, computer animation, etc.… The list is never ending. As is our interpretations of them. The purpose of art, in my opinion, is for enjoyment. As Pablo Picasso puts it “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” Meaning that art is the enjoyment in your day happily rinsing away the problems of each day. Conventionality in art is key. In the art world there are set ways to do things. Use a utensil to create drawings. Use color or don’t use color. Write music within the 24 keys. So on and so on. Commonly, people say you have to learn the rules before you break them. The hard part is every rule has already been broken. For example, playing a piece of music has rules and directions to follow. So following the rules are required. Even if I take an improvisational solo there will not be any combination of notes and rhythms that someone else has not already played. Since, there are over 6 million people in the world and the range of music has not and will never change, originality is realistically impossible. But people still enjoy the song and solo.
