I remember when I finally graduated high school. I was so happy that this step of my life was finally over. My dad congratulated me on my achievements, saying his job was over. My mom, however, had other plans for me. She wanted me to go to college. My dad also wanted me to go to college, but to him, college was for myself. High school was for him. If I decided to go to school that would be my decision. Regardless, he had no problem with me not going to school, as long as I found a good paying job. That wasn’t the case for my mother. What is the purpose of college? Is it necessary? There are many reasons why some people may consider going to school I want to explore the reasons why some people may decide to go to school. For so long, we have just accepted the fact that college is the best thing for everybody. College is needed to get a good paying job and to be a helpful member of our society. Well, I want to argue against some of the many reasons why people may go to school, and discuss the mental, physical, and psychological cons that came with pursuing high-education. While brainstorming some pros and cons of going to college, I stumbled upon an article by Patrick Bet-David titled “Drop Out and Get Schooled: 4 Bad Reasons to Go to College.” What followed this blunt title was a subscript that read “Are you going to college because it's right for you or because others say you should?” This is a marvelous question to ask. I believe that there are nine main reasons why students may decide to go to college. Going to college for the sake of your parents was one of the reasons I came up with.
