Purpose Of Education Research Paper

The purpose of education is to educate our young people and prepare them to become better individuals. My philosophy on education and the purpose is individuals must learn to not only be prepared to live independently, but also to live and participate in their social life. There are three main objectives in children’s schooling according to the philosopher Adler, the development of citizenship, personal growth or self-improvement, and occupationally prepared. It is easier for a child to learn the good personal traits and act upon them at a young age. Schools can teach children how to be responsible, honest, respectable, compassionate, and give them courage to move toward greatness. Then, I can plan learning/instructional modifications based on what they need to learn. I will need to give a clear idea to the students of what they will learn, help them to focus on the purpose of learning rather than completing an activity. It is important to have the learning goal aligned to the essential concept and skill because when I assess my students, it will be based on the learning goals. When it comes to mathematics, for every learning goal it will have objectives describing what students need to acquire. Teaching math can be a bit hard because some students will not understand the analytical and computational skill immediately. Planning a detailed lesson plan and handing it to students to execute can be helpful. This strategy is helpful because students will start to work on their own and then start asking me questions. In this matter, I can explain, demonstrate, and elucidate those areas that each student needs precisely. To have my students learn math, they will need to work in small groups cooperatively such as sharing explanations and applying their mathematical thinking skill. Multiple choice questions will never be used in my classroom because such tests only reflect on memorization instead of the student’s understanding of the material. One way I can assess my students is by their performance such as demonstrating what they have learned and how to solve a complex problem. In addition to assessing students, I will need to assess and improve my teaching. Some main sources I can use to assess my teaching is self-reflection, student feedback, and peer observation. For example, a small group discussion or open-ended feedback forms is all important to get information from my students since they are the learners.
