The Purple Heart is awarded to soldiers who were harmed in wars or did some merits in wartime. More than one million Purple Hearts has been awarded from World War I. With this overwhelming number of soldiers who received the Purple Heart award and other hundreds of thousands who died in wars, it is no wonder that the debate about the question if it worse to die for one’s country is spoken about in movies, songs, and even schools. In Tim O’Brien’s story, “The Things They Carried”, O’Brien paints an image of the Vietnam War through the things the soldiers carried with them.
