The Puritans weren’t always a part of their own religion. They used to be a part of the Catholic church until King Henry VIII asked the church for a divorce from Catherine. The Catholic church declined King Henry’s request, causing Henry to split from the church and established the church of England. The church of England wanted to split from the catholic church, which is what they attempted to do. The Puritans had such a strong devotion to christ that they felt their way of life was the life to live. This caused them to focus on changing indians way of life. If a group of religious people have strong enough beliefs to feel that their life is the life to live and feel obligated to change others lives to follow theirs, they would be puritanical. The Puritans also had a belief that females were inferior and needed a male figure to be dominant. If a female broke this mold they were viewed as dangerous no matter the circumstances. This inferior belief made woman more vulnerable to witchcraft hysteria because of how careful they had to be with fitting the perfect image. Such extreme beliefs to the point of viewing women like this would also make them very puritanical.
