The Pumpkin Patch: A Short Story

I step out of my car, and onto the gravel parking lot. Looking around, I notice the eager children frantically pulling at their parent’s hands as they walk into the pumpkin patch. Almost immediately a nostalgic sense of happiness sets in. That warm fuzzy feeling inside my stomach is impossible to ignore at this point as the memories of my childhood flood in. This feeling remains constant throughout October, November and December but it is strongest in October. Something about pumpkin patches makes me so happy. The calmness of nature meets the loud and crazy outburst of an excited child as they take it all in. As I walk through the entrance I see rows upon rows of pumpkins waiting to be picked, almost as if that is their life’s purpose. I smell the barn and farm animals mixed with cider and popcorn. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time to when I was a child on a field trip to the pumpkin patch and relive it all over again. I remember the old pumpkin patch I used to go to as a child. I remember the long gravel driveway you took that leads back to the farm and the lake with the small dock that I’d sit at with my friends when the day was almost done. The giant field with every size of pumpkins you could imagine. Once you picked a pumpkin you’d walk across the way and into the barn which was transformed into a craft …show more content…

Unfortunately, it was torn down so I will never see it again. But I still remember everything about it and looking back and thinking about it still brings that nostalgic feeling everyone is addicted to. Every time I step outside and feel the cool fall breeze I’m brought back to that time. I wish they would tell you that you’re in the good old days when you’re in it, because with one blink, it’s

To many, the end of October is a time of corn mazes, costume parties, and haunted houses. Many cultures celebrate harvest festivals during October, though none are as well-known as Halloween. Because Halloween is primarily descended from the Celtic festival of Samhain, when some think of Halloween, they think of bats and cats and witches. Because of the contemporary nature of Halloween, without Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Sylvia Plath’s “Lady Lazarus”, and George A. Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead, the holiday as we…

Although in Rick Bass’s short story Antlers, the story starts with the town’s annual Halloween party, where the traditions they have are a little less traditional. In the story the party itself holds a very symbolic meaning and has many underlying tones throughout the entire story. The importance of the party being specifically for Halloween is crucial to the story, as a lot would change otherwise. The Halloween party in Antlers is a little different to our own ideas and ideals for the festivities.…

The author doesn’t comprehend why there are parents who allow their children to participate in these kinds of events. The author then proceeds to assert that she doesn’t “get Halloween, ..the celebration, ..the pumpkins” and overall the “creepy ghostly” features on houses. The adoption of repetition is to prompt the idea to the audience that the whole celebration is chaotic to her and shows the reason why she has written this article. Moreover, the comment attached was written by another parent, Ellie, conveys an opposite point of views from Warren’s. Ellie informs in a relaxed tone that she views Halloween as a “street party” as the other parents are able to “chat, ..meet now neighbours” and the “kids (are able to) get some excitement” during this event.…
