A career in nursing or education was my focus during my high school years. However, when I witnessed the marvel of occupational therapy in the classroom, I saw my two dreams merging into one. The therapist gave a child with behavioral issues, a pencil grip and a slant board. To the ordinary person, this sounds like a minute, almost insignificant life change. However to this child, it unlocked the world of learning. It opened up the freedom to write and focus in class, resulting in less negative behaviors and dramatically improved temperament. The therapist inspired me to pursue formal education and life experiences within the Occupational Therapy field. (Due to the success as a leader on my swim team, I prove to have keen problem-solving skills. I enjoy collaborating with my team to achieve group goals and believe this to be particularly helpful in occupational therapy. Many issues arose during my career as a swimmer that ranged from personal mêlées, to problems organizing a fundraising walk for muscular dystrophy. Each issue I face with confidence and empathy.
