However, we live in a society where this is all replaced by the hand of television. Now television not only contribute to our education and knowledge, but also influence our behavior, morals, and social standards. Statistics shows that “American youth spends 900 hours in school each year, but watches 1500 hours of television” (Perlmutter, par 1). Which shows that many are watching television shows that is either educational or inappropriate. Therefore, what we watch on television aids us in learning and also does have an impact on our perception of the world. When I was growing up and the internet wasn 't good, I would spent majority of my time watching tv like Tom and Jerry. Although being a children show, it still had violience, stereotpes, and sexualize content. I interpreted what I saw and would emulate it into my life, In addition, We have easier access to many of the television programs that has several depictions or references to sexism, racism, violence, and profanity. Furthermore, we continue to believe in the content or information depicted on the tv even if it is deemed to be false or unrealistic. Television also gives me insight on different issues such as discrimination, sexism, and politics. For instance, the most prominent topic today is about police brutality. In fact, the case of Robert Davis, a sixty years old man who was punched and beaten repeatedly by a officers. He was accused and charged with being intoxicated, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer. However, after seeing the video of the fight says otherwise. As a result, my view of policeman is becomes very different than before. I no longer see them as a person who is here to help and protect, but instead a person who is just corrupted and power hungry.
