As a caregiver of young children, we’re also partly responsible for a child’s health and well-being. Although, teachers or caregivers …show more content…
It’s also important that we’re teaching children the importance of proper nutrition in the correct way. What I mean by this, is that we aren’t using food as “weapon”, examples of this can be, bribing a child with fast foods or candy on a daily basis. Although, it is okay to bribe or reward your child with a fast food meal, it’s important that as caregivers and parents that we limit this to special occasions and not a daily occurrence. For example, when a child does well on their report card, or does well in a competition of some sort, that would be an appropriate time to reward your child with a fast food meal. That scenario would be an example of using food as a “weapon” in a positive way, because if they don’t do well, they won’t get the unusual reward. However, rewarding your child with a fast food meal daily for doing something good, such as doing their homework, doing their chores, or being good at school, would be considered using food as a weapon in a negative way. I say this because, if you reward a child with a fast food meal every time they do something good, you’re teaching them that if they do something good, they can get the fast food meal that is harmful to their well-being and will also be teaching them the importance of proper nutrition …show more content…
For example, a way you could approach this scenario in a positive manner, would be by telling a child that when they eat vegetables or drink milk, they’ll grow big and strong one day. However, a way you could approach this problem in a negative manner, would be by discouraging a child and telling them that their appearance is the way it is because of the unhealthy foods they’re consuming. Even though, that might have some truth behind it, that’s not the way you handle that situation when it comes to a young child. Especially because for the most part, the food they’re consuming at a young age, really isn’t in their control. Because of this, it would be completely wrong to blame the child, from there you would have to reach out to the child’s parents, and encourage the child to eat the healthier foods that will help make them big and strong one day. In conclusion, using food as a weapon can be done correctly and incorrectly, it’s all about approaching the situation the correct way. When dealing with young children, the way you should approach situations is a lot different than when approaching situations with adults. As caregivers of children or even as future parents, it’s important for us to understand the wrong and right way to approach situations
