These are all vital systems that work together to keep your horse healthy and in good shape. During exercise, the lungs need to be capable of filling up with enough oxygen to help engage the muscle development and movement. With proper conditioning the muscles grow bigger, blood carries more nutrients and oxygen and the heart and lungs pump better.
Conditioning should always be done over a gradual period of several weeks. Conditioning can take time depending on the fitness level, discipline, and health of the horse. A fair guideline to follow is to begin week one with slower transitions and then gradually increase the work load as you go along week by week.
