Cyberbullying Should Be Criminalized Essay

Cyberbullying is a term marked for children or teens that are tormented, abused, embarrassed and harassed using the internet or mobile phones. As we see bullies in schools and colleges, dragging weak children around, similarly those teenagers who tend to harass someone online, use cyberbullying. It is usually not a onetime attempt. Sources for cyberbullying can be websites like “Facebook”, “Twitter”, and “Skype” etc. Increase in technology in no doubt helping the world to proceed with advancement. The benefit of this widespread technology for youngsters has expanded opportunities for communication and exposure to many community involvements (Salter, Crofts, & Lee, 2013). Criminalizing an act depends on the outcome or the circumstances it creates. Considering cyberbullying an act to be criminalized or not, we should look upon the consequences it may have. Not all bad acts are worthy of being criminalized. If a student bullies another student we do not send him to jail for that. Hence, cyberbullying should be taken control of rather than handling children over to the law. It would result in tearing up families and sending everyone to jail. Sibling based harassment also occurs and is not something uncommon. 30% of 7th to 9th graders reported non parent family member online victimization. Some of the cyberbullying also occurs as a result of a bullies own performance. If someone once is a cyberbully, they have a definite chance of being the victim next time as the previous victim seeks revenge and so the process goes on. A study shows that 27% of the girls who cyberbullied others were retaliated back with their own cyberbullying. If this is taken under control by guardians in the first place it would result in much less
