I think that year round school is an advantage to the student's, school, and economy. Year round education improves students ability to learn, prevents burnout in teachers and students, and saves and makes money for the school. Year round education improves students ability to learn new things. The less break a student has the more education they remember. Education.seattlepi.com states, “ Advocates of year round schools cite increased performance because students have less time to forget important learning material than they might during a longer summer break.” If they have a test coming up right after a shorter break (NWEA) it is more likely that they will have better scores. The better scores they get the better the school does. Also students will spend less time having to study and refresh their brain. That is also one reason that teachers and students have less burnout. Year round education allows students and teachers to recuperate from burnout. The less of a …show more content…
The “out of school” academics with year round schools just happen in the months that students have off. That may seem like year round school, 365 days a year, but it is an optional course. With the special academics in year round school that could eliminate summer school. With summer school eliminated that could increase the amount of academics that a school could have. Each year, school districts are faced with a growing population of students. The issue with this is that many districts have a shortage of school facilities, and they are limited to the amount of money they can spend on each of these facilities. To handle this issue, school districts around the world have adopted a year-round school calendar to ensure they are using these existing school facilities to their full ability. Year-round schooling arranges the breaks differently, causing students to be in school all throughout the year, rather than having three months off in the summer. In addition to maximizing the use of the schools, year-round schooling improves student learning and saves money in the long run.…

During the summer break, students will usually forget a little of what they have learned over their school time. The 15 day break will allow the students to remember more and keep their regular schedule. Also, these 15 days can allow the students to get any late work complete or prepare for something in school coming in the next couple of days. Students going to school could enjoy it more, due to the shorter school period instead of going for the continuous 180 days of school. If students can remember more and enjoy school more, then the students should be able to become more educated.…

In a year-round school, it may be hard to maintain a job or travel with family in the one month of summer that the school gives students as their summer break. Laura Kelsey, author of “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation” claims, “year-round schools have roughly the same number of vacation days as traditional school calendars” (Kelsey 28). The traditional school calendar gives students 3 months of summer vacation, allowing students and teachers a much needed break. Some would argue that those summer months are the downfall to losing some of the material taught in the previous year of school. However, Kelsey also states, “Learning doesn’t have to stop for kids on long summer breaks.…

With the short breaks that year-round school schedules provide, students are less likely to be bored and have less of a slide in knowledge. According to Jordan Catapano, year-round schools’ break schedules add more options for vacations and rests. Opposed to long breaks, these breaks are more ideal because they also relieve summer slide. With short, frequent breaks, teachers don’t have to surrender much time to review lessons (Catapano). Students and their families have more vacation options because of the many breaks, but they don’t have the option of summer camps and jobs with the year-round schedule.…

For kids trying to focus on learning, the breaks will be disruptive towards their efforts. One of the main reasons that year-round schooling was implemented in many places was to prevent summer slide, but kids will forget during breaks, and students and teachers will be in a constant state of review. As stated in a scholastic.com article, “It was really hard to get involved in school work becase as soon as you geared up, you had to gear back down to go on a 2 week vacation.” This shows that students will be less involved in their school work and will be preparing for a vacation, so there is even a possibility that students may be affected negatively. Florida shouldn’t switch to a year-round schedule.…

Most year round schools will have a shorter break than the typical two to three months in the summer. Year round school consists of a longer break most likely in the winter rather than the warmer months. Due to the changes in the schedule, families will have to plan vacations and work times around the school schedule. This makes it harder for families whose children go to different schools. Another disadvantage to year round school is the work ethic of the students.…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…
