High School Job Advantages

For the first three years of high school I found myself asking if it was time for me to get a job. Like any other high schooler, I used a skill I have used over the years that I like to call procrastination. I would find myself asking, “How soon is too soon is to start working?” and would somehow convince myself that it’s too early to start. I’ve learned that having a job in high school is more beneficial that being unemployed. I would know, because I have been on both sides within the last two months. One extremely important factor in deciding to work in high school, is of course, money. When it comes down to both spending and saving, having a job allows you to do so much more. Having a job in high school allows people to learn more about the field and and the interest that they have in it. After working, you might even discover it is a field that you might want to go into. You could potentially end up taking some classes in high school for it, and eventually even go to college for it as well. Also, any job becomes a job that can be added to your résumé for the future and any other jobs you will apply for later in life. Yet again, without a job, these things might not happen. Life could continue on with this interest remaining undiscovered. The field you had originally thought you wanted to go into and go to college for could be one that you lose interest in later. You would miss out on multiple years and possibly some very enjoyable classes as well. Another disadvantage of not having a job in high school is that there is no experience to put down on any résumés that are done in the years to come. Speaking of classes, academics are another important idea when talking about high school …show more content…
Relaxing of course is something that high school students and adults alike have and always will enjoy doing. However, between attending school and working, it can be very difficult to find that precious time. Time that isn 't spent at school or work is spent studying and doing homework, leaving basically no time to kick back. No time to play games, whether it be on my phone or on my Xbox, or to watch television, YouTube, or even Netflix. Without a job, I would be able to spend more time relaxing as well, and come home right after school, do my homework, and then sit back and do absolutely nothing. I would be able to do all of the things that I didn 't have time for working. Right now, because I work, I’d come home after I get off at nine at night, and talk to my girlfriend while I do homework until midnight. It makes it difficult to really balance spending time with family and friends as

I believe high school students should have jobs, to save for their future and should help their families whenever it is necessary. While working, students can develop the skills needed to handle money. In Etzioni’s article, he assumes that when a teenager gets money, a large amount of it is spent on useless items. However, teens working at “the cash register” (par. 9) realize how important money is to succeed. Many students are saving for college or paying bills to support themselves, to help not only better their future, but…

Have you ever gone up to your parents and asked them to buy you something really nice and flashy, only to have them retaliate with “if you want that, you’ll have to go out and buy it for yourself”? Or you’ve been in the situation where your family might need a little help paying for all of the expenses throughout the house. Or maybe you 're like me; you 're walking through the mall one day, looking at all of the clothes and other objects you would buy if only you had money to spend, and watching your friends spending all that they 've earned. Well, what 's stopping you from having all that money? What 's stopping you from walking into those stores with a "help wanted" sign and asking the manager what it would take for them to hire you?…

The issue of whether or not to attend a university, and earn a college degree is one that has been generally up for debate. When someone makes the decision to go to college, and to earn a degree, they usually are doing this to set up their future with a successful job. It is argued in the article, “A College Degree Is Not a Smart Investment for Everyone,” written by Stephanie Owen, that it no longer pays off to go down this route, and instead, looking for a job out of high school is the best path to follow. People who decide to go with this idea fail to realize that there are many flaws which make this a bad decision. I disagree with the author’s stance, and instead believe that going to college, and earning a degree sets up the best future…
