Vigilantism is when citizens or groups take the aw in their own hands, without any training or legal authority. Vigilantism has always been a well known subject and plays a role in the idea of the American Justice. Whether in the American old west, the pre and post Civil War South, and even today in our cities, vigilantism have always been a controversial subject. Vigilantism is also present in different countries like Israel, Mexico, parts of Africa and Europe, alongside in central American countries. But vigilantism can always be trace to a single point of origin: It occurs when the citizens of a country feel unsafe, unheard, or mistreated by others around them or by law enforcement.

For instance, individuals would often glue the locks on abortion clinic to make it impossible to enter the building without repairs. This often results in the clinic being closed from days to weeks. This is mostly due to citizens feeling their concerns of unborn children dying are not being heard. One individual did this form of vigilantism in South Carolina, but soon after, on November 27, 2015, in the state of Colorado, he took his vigilantism to a new level and commited a horrific act of mass murder was committed. The perpetrator was named Robert Louis Dear Jr, and he was a well known anti-abortionist. Dear soon went to Colorado’s Planned Parenthood clinic and open fire. Three individual died and nine more was wounded. Only when police crashed a armored vehicle into the clinic did Dear surrender to law enforcement agents. This form of vigilantism is very common in similar situations where resident try to make their ideas and philosophy known by creating a demonstration. Dear said that his inspiration came from another similar act of vigilante by Paul Hill, who killed an abortion provider in Florida in 1994, along with the doctor’s bodyguard, (Trevor Hughes,, 2016).
