Requiring children to to be vaccinated has become a controversial topic in today’s society. Vaccinations might be one of the safest medical options, but there are possible risks that could follow. Many parents have concerns about the ingredients, efficacy, and side effects of vaccines. This can happen “in about one per about 20,000 babies in the United States.” DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussiss) and MMR vaccines can cause seizures, coma, lowered consciousness, and permanent brain damage. The CDC has reported that it’s so rare to suffer from these reactions that professionals have a difficult time determining a cause. “The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) says that vaccines may be linked to learning disabilities, asthma, autism, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and other disabilities”(NVIC). Sears, MD, believes from a personal experience that thimerosal, an organic mercury compound found in some TDap, Hib, flu, and TD vaccines, can cause autism (Sears).
