At the Fort Bliss Army base a massive construction project is under way in order to help support the Army’s 1st Armored Division. U.S Army experts on unmanned vehicles are constructing a special airport for Grey Eagle and Shadow unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The paved runway will be 5,000 feet long, with another runway one fifth the size, as well as a 50,000 square-foot hangar with an office and support buildings that contain a command and control center, a hot loading facility for munitions, and a hazardous materials building.
