The Tampon tax it is an issue that is gaining more and more attention around the world. According to Gloria Steinem “The tampon tax is part of an overall economic system in which the dry cleaner charges more for a blouse than a shirt—in which men are assumed to be buying necessities and women are assumed to be buying luxuries.” For example, in Canada, the tax on feminine menstrual products was lifted over summer, after thousands signed an online petition on the matter. In Britain, France, among other countries, are working to reduce or end the tampon tax. The founder of Feministing.com, and also columnist of The Guardian, Jessica Valenti wrote in 2014 a piece called “The Case for Free Tampons,” addressing critiques of the tax, stating that
