Have you ever wanted the chance to win millions upon millions of dollars by buying one single ticket? All of your dreams could come true when you play the lottery. When you play the lottery you have the possibility to change not only your life, but the people 's lives around you. However what do you do when the state that you reside in does not have a lottery system? Welcome to the state of Mississippi where the casino system reigns supreme, and a statewide lottery system is for the most part an afterthought. Many people in the state of Mississippi say that the lottery is a waste of money and that our state already has a casino system, but the lottery should be replace the casino system in the state of Mississippi because the winners can …show more content…
Casinos can cause compulsive gambling. “While gambling is a form of fun for most people, about two to six percent of the adult population has a problem with it”. (Gambling Winner and Losers Hyde page 53). What this means that these people are so caught up in their gambling that it is as powerful as a drug addiction. When these people enter a casino it creates a certain “high” for those people and for them they feel like gambling is a must. With a statewide lottery these people may gamble and buy lottery tickets, but these people would not be spending as much money on a lottery ticket as they would in a casino. Even though most casinos would have to shut down and many people would lose their jobs those people who formerly worked in the casinos could possibly look for new employment elsewhere. While that may sound a little harsh in such a tight economy where many people live paycheck to paycheck those people could apply for social programs such as unemployment and …show more content…
Think about how much good could be done with the money that the schools receive from the lottery. All these lives that could be changed by a lottery system because of scholarship money granted by a lottery should be enough to convince most everyone. All of the small town communities that could be changed through the money that the lottery takes in should also convince people. There are just too many positive reasons as to why a statewide lottery system would benefit the state of Mississippi more than the regular casino system does in the present
