The Pros and Cons of the Global Warming Worst Case Scenario

When you talk about global warming, the most common thoughts you'd conjure are worst case scenarios. And that's not surprising, considering how the effects of climate change have been felt by almost everyone in the world in recent years. More intense and frequent tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, forest fires, droughts, and heat waves make the headlines almost regularly. Indeed, it seems the future of Earth is a grim one.

However, no matter how dire any situation may seem, there will always be positive points. So even if global warming is an inevitable occurrence, there can still be some pros that go with the cons.

It changes the geography of colder regions.

Frozen regions like Siberia, the Arctic, and the Antarctic can experience milder climates and more vegetation as climate change melts the ice.

List of Cons of the Global Warming Worst Case Scenario

1. It damages the environment.

As mentioned in the introduction, natural disasters are becoming more extreme and frequent due to global warming. The oceans are more acidic, more forests are damaged due to drought, acid rain, and forest fires, water formations are drying up, and river banks and seashores are vanishing.

2. It destroys habitats.

Because of the environmental changes, species are also losing their homes and source of food. Some animals and plants are even nearing extinction or have become extinct already. Even human beings are not spared as those living in coastal areas, deserts, rain forests, river banks, and areas prone to natural disasters need to find new places to live due to the destruction of their homes or the endangerment of their lives.

3. It can lead to mass migration.

Since more habitats are destroyed, more animals and people need to migrate. This can result in the overcrowding of human settlements and the unnatural and unscheduled migration of animals to other

It causes more health problems and deaths.

One of worst case scenarios of global warming is the shortage of food, resulting in sickness and deaths of a large number of the population of all living things. Furthermore, since humans will live in overpopulated settlements, the spread of disease and infection can be faster and more widespread. Aside from that, climate change has increased the number of death cases involving heat stroke, respiratory problems, and other conditions.

5. It destroys the Earth for future generations.

With the consistent increase of temperatures, can you imagine how hot and badly damaged the planet would be 30 or 50 years from now? What kind of environment would your children and grandchildren live in? If the global warming worst case scenarios come true, then future generations will surely not have a positive image to look forward to.

No matter how much you try to see the advantages of climate change, the fact is that it is a real problem with overwhelming

Not only physical health will be effect but also mental health: “Hot weather has been linked to increased aggression, violence and higher rates of suicide - and, some caution, global warming may make matters worse” (Leung), implying that the heat caused by global warming makes people violent, unstable, and brings out the worst in them. As global warming is happening, sea-level will rise; seawater is getting mixed with freshwater causing pollution to occur. Another negative effect from global warming is the polar regions melting away. As the ocean temperatures rise, it impacts the ice at the poles, as “ocean warming melts the ice far more quickly than increasing air temperatures.” (Thomson), meaning the ice melting does not occur on its own; the ocean helps speed up the process because of the increase in heat. Melting glaciers will affect drinking water as well as agriculture because the melted ice will affect the regrowth cycle.…

It has led to increasing the temperatures experienced at the surface of the earth, which, in return, has affected agricultural and human sustainability. The condition will worsen if the trend continues, due to high temperatures; the sea level will rise, encroaching to land occupied by man. The high temperatures will increase the rate of vaporization from water bodies and in turn increase rainfall. The rainfall is likely to cause flooding on land will be a global disaster. With the new climate conditions brought about by environmental degradation, some plan and animal species will no longer be able to survive but will become extinct.…

The melting of the ice caps and rising sea levels threaten to wipe off island countries off maps and even change borders in most countries. We can no longer deny that we are a key factor in changes of the climate worldwide. Not only does climate change affect the temperatures and the weather, it also affects our food sources. Once flourishing farmlands are turned into dusty drought stricken regions where plants can barely grow. If there is not a good season for crops, then populations around the world will starve.…

High temperatures and humidity can result in heat waves. If the temperature stays the same or does not cool down at night, this can be dangerous to human health and can lead to death (“Global Warming Effects,” 2011). According to the National Resource Defense Council (n.d.), thousands of people around the world die due to heat waves. Young children, elderly, and those who are sick cannot tolerate high temperatures and poor air quality. High temperatures and the increase in smog can affect those with “heart and respiratory disease” and asthma.…

This means that the water will not be dispersed evenly anymore, leaving families in the dry without water access or rising water prices that will definitely not be affordable to the poor. Also, the areas that receive much more water will be more prone to floods, which means that a lot more money will have to be spent on plans to prevent these floods and make buildings more resistant to them. Our carbon emissions will only continue to destabilize and destroy the social and ecological systems that humanity has worked so hard to preserve. In addition, natural disasters will become more frequent and more threatening due to climate change (Oppenheimer and Antilla-Hughes). Any person in the world can agree that rate of natural disasters is something that we do not want an increase in.…

Global warming has a number of impacts on people, oceans, temperature and ecosystems. There are more floods as well as droughts and this therefore puts many people at risk. The droughts result from the rise of temperatures as no plants are able to do well in those kinds of temperatures and climate. The sea level also rises as a result of global warming and greatly threatens people all over the world. According to scientists, the rise of sea levels is as a result of the melting of ice sheets due to global warming.…

Many species live in the rainforest, so many of them were threatened by deforestation. In this way, the biodiversity is also decreasing. Besides, many or even uncountable number of trees were cut down, the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide will be broken. Thus, deforestation is aggravated global warming further. More problems will appear if we do not stipulate a limitation for deforestation, and the problems we already have that will be worse than before.…

Some of the effects are already being felt in parts of the world. The poles of the earth is where global warming is being most affected. Due to this the ice caps are melting, the sea is becoming warmer and the rise of the sea level. With the ice caps melting, polar animals that live on these glaciers will suffer, because they will not have a place to sleep or rest. Also, the sea levels will rise due to ice melting and people who live near the shores all across the world will slowing watch the water creeping up the shore.…

The effect that overpopulation will have on food would not stop at malnourishment. Malnourishment can lead to the inability to mentally develop, cause death, and lower the level of productivity (Pimentel 151). If our global population grows at an exponential rate these events will spread to other areas of the world. As a result, more and more people will suffer from malnutrition and starvation causing more deaths per year. Also, with more people living in one area the risk of spreading a disease increases.…
