Essay On Increasing The Driving Age

By law it is stated that no one under the age of 16 years of age is able to obtain a driver’s license. For that reason the majority of teens look forward to turning 16 so they can get their driver 's license and start their independent life. Myself, like my teenage friends were beyond excited that we were finally able to get our driver’s license and be able to go out without having our parents drop us off everywhere. A couple of my friend’s parents bought them brand new cars as a gift for passing the driving test, but their excitement didn’t last. They crashed their new cars, whether it be into a trash can, into another parked car or got in a really bad car accident. Increasing the legal driving age from 16-years-old to 18-years-old will decrease the high rate of deaths among teens due to driving accidents. Teenagers nowadays are gradually becoming less and less responsible drivers. They do what they think is right in the moment and never think of what the outcome might be. In most cases, they end up dead or mentally traumatized from what happened. At the age that teenagers get a license, they aren’t as mature as if they were to get their license after they graduated high school. They would be more mature and going off to college, where there would be a lot of responsibilities to keep up with. Unfortunately teenagers do not realize that they are in the wrong until it is too late. There may be times where they take their own life and don’t have the chance to realize that what they did was wrong.
