Although deterrence is often mentioned as a major benefit to society of executing those convicted of murder, only 11% of death penalty supporters volunteer that as a reason for supporting it. 7% percent of those who favor the death penalty do so because they believe it keeps the criminal from repeating the same crime (2003). These supporters also desire for vengeance or retribution. They also tend to focus on the financial cost to taxpayers of capital punishment which is several times that of keeping someone in prison for life. According to NBC News, taxpayers are paying between $50-90 million dollars more per year to prosecute death penalty cases than life sentences.…

The death penalty is mainly used in criminal cases when a criminal kills multiple people, he or she is a fugitive of the law, or when someone else has over sixty offenses. There are restrictions on who the penalty can be used against and the reason, for the penalty being put on a person. It is known that there are exceptions to all the rules and for this reason the death penalty should not be allowed in the United States. It is a waste of time, money, and resources. The death penalty should be abolished because of the systematic flaws, along with the economic and ethical issues that come along with it. The death penalty is inhumane primarily because nobody should get to decide who live and who dies. It is considered cruel and unusual punishment, but according to the Supreme Court, it is the appropriate punishment for particular crimes. Essentially, two wrongs do not make a right, so there is no point in killing individuals that have done the…

It prevents more pain than previous methods, it’s safe, and effective. This topic is very opinionate so it has many pros and cons; depending on where you stand if you think some of the issues are positive or negative. There are more negatives than positives but that’s because most people tend to not look at the facts and just rush to what they hear about how “bad” lethal injections are. I reinforced my opinion by researching more about the ideas behind lethal injections and it opened my mind up to the positives of lethal injections. Lethal injections mask as much pain possible, unlike firing squad, gas chambers, and electric chairs.…

The death penalty is wrong, inhumane and ineffective. Every year billions of dollars and thousands of man hours go into trying to take convicts lives. These felons are men and women who have committed murders. Some people may say that since they took someone else's life they don't deserve to live themselves, but I disagree with that. Taking the life of the killer won't bring the victim back and is unethical, expensive and unfairly or wrongly given sometime.…

It has its perks and it’s downfalls, but needs to be put in place to keep order in our society. If it wasn’t for the death penalty I believe our most violent individuals would stop at nothing to commit these outrageous crimes.…

There are pros and cons to capital punishment, and it is hard to tell which side has the more convincing argument. One must contemplate the morality of the death penalty, the effectiveness of deterrence, and the possible discrimination that it may lead to. There also may need to be more DNA testing and fair trials so that innocent people are not put to death by accident. The death penalty is an important topic to consider in this day and age, especially now when it is under such heavy debate. The 3,350 people currently on death row would most likely…
