Roger Lewis’ book Imperialism at bay: the United States and the Decolonization of the British Empire, 1941 to 1945, Lewis threw majority of second section discuss the Atlantic Charter. He discusses that the Atlantic Charter was aimed to eliminate imperialism and promote self determination. One of the largest disagreements between the United States and Great Britain was the British fear that the United States would destroy their empire and replace them as the leading imperial power in the world. Although the British fears were justified, the Atlantic Charter was actually a prolonged version of imperialism. Colonies would not gain their independence immediately rather they would be placed under trusteeships with the parent states being the same colonial powers as before. The only states that would differ were those under the control of axis powers. Roosevelt felt that that the many charter should not just liberate those in Europe and Africa but it should also be universal. The parent states should promote education assist in building a functional and European style government eventually create and maintain freedoms and if all the well being of all
