A Super PAC is “a relatively modern breed of political-action committee that is allowed to raise and spend unlimited amounts of money from corporations, unions, individuals and associations.” according to about.com. Unlike other political action committees, a super PAC has the advantage of obtaining more money. Because of the difference of how much raised money is allowed, super PACs have become very controversial. One reason why people consider it to be something negative is because one person or group of people could give an enormous amount of money to a political party or candidate and then are able to dictate decisions which that person makes before and after (if elected). According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, an interest group is defined as “a group of people who try to influence politics or the policies of government, business, etc., in a way that helps their own interests”. The goal of an interest group is to influence the government, where as a super PACs goal was aimed more towards influencing the people/citizens. Interest groups help candidates get elected by lobbying, endorsing, raising money and influencing the government. Lobbyist vary in the level of influence they have, but if persistent one is able to make some sort of deal with those involved in the government. Citizens have a hard time trusting lobbyist, even though lobbyists have petitioned and raised awareness for positive things such as AIDS prevention and poverty relief.
