In one of the stories, Weber claimed that he was disappointed because he could not afford a Big Mac at McDonalds while the vendors sold jerseys in his name for $50. For the past 20 years, sports business, especially, basketball and football have progressed while the student-athletes are swindled. NCAA has been pressured to provide payments pay student-athletes to cater for their expenses (Whitlock 1). When the story was believed, the creation of street agents was obvious. These street agents have done more harm than good. Therefore, college athletes should not be paid. On the other side, those in support that student has to be paid to play have their reason too. According to these supporters, college-athletes takes a huge risk by putting their lives on the in each competition. For instance, in 2013 NCAA tournament, Louisville player called Kevin Ware, got a serious injury on his lower right leg while trying to block an opponent player (Meshefejian 16). Luckily, six months after treatment, he healed and was able to play again. In some cases, players are not lucky just like Kevin and get paralyzed when opposing a clean shot or tackle while in football fields. Other players get their career in sports terminated even before they start. Saying that student risk a lot by putting their life and health on the line in the games is true but that does not guarantee them the need for payment. All the students in the sporting competition participate in the sports for sheer passion and love of the game. Besides, the school is only supposed to provide a platform for them to participate but not a career. The core business of the students is education. On the second argument, the fact that colleges receive a lot of money from the contracts is not a reason for them to get payment. Schools are there to provide education as well as other opportunities that the students should utilize fully. Therefore, college athletes should not be paid to
