If the government was to enforce stricter gun laws, not only would it be insufficient, but it would be impractical as well. Numerous individuals have guns whether they are legal or not. Almost 80 percent of gun related crime is committed by perpetrators who are utilizing guns owned by someone else. Only 18 percent of perpetrators are the legal owners of the gun. Researchers could search all day and night to figure out how these guns were legally purchased and how it landed in the hands of someone else. However, they may never really know the events that led to the perpetrator getting a hold of the gun. It is many ways a person could get a hold of these guns. For example, the rightful owner could misplace the gun, thieves could take the gun, or a person could buy a gun from a dealer, who may or may not the rightful owner. There are variety of weapons to utilize when committing a crime. In fact, 1,604 people were killed by knives and other cutting objects in 2016. 656 people were murdered by personal weapons such as hands and feet. 472 murder victims lost their life due to blunt objects like clubs and hammers. 98 people were killed by being strangled. (Statista.com) These all occurred within the same year. That is a significant about of murders committed by firearms. While not being as high as the deaths due to firearms they still are high rates. If it was possible to rid firearms, people would just substitute other weapons in its place. Crime would continue. Therefore, gun control would not be crime
