If one compares human embryos to us and our vital organs, one would conclude that taking the cells from a human embryo is just like taking vital organs from human children and adults. This example is what qualifies human embryos to the same moral status as human children and adults. With so many objections, there are more supporting arguments that outweigh the negative. Lee and George argue that human embryos have the same moral status as human children and adults because of the development and potential of rational nature and reason. They say that human embryos will have the ability to reason because of the organs forming within the embryo. Philosophers declare that there are two separate ways or positions an embryo can have the same moral status as human children and adults. Overall, human embryos have moral status after the egg has been fertilized. One of the two ways human embryos have moral status is the value of the human embryo and its value of protection. A way to think about it is every human wants to make sure that their life is valuable and “worthy of protection” (Hug 108). The other way is the human embryo having the potential to become an adult. Sagan and Singer agree to say that human embryos must have reason and a rational nature. In a way, they agree that human embryos have a moral status like human children and adults because humans have both qualities. Human embryos …show more content…
The objections that were mention about human embryos included the problem with the age of the embryo, value of the embryo and its life, and the dependency of the embryo. I believe that the age of the human embryo does not matter when it comes to moral status due to the fact it would be like killing someone for vital organs. The age of a human embryo only matters to some because most argue that humans must be able to reason and have a rational nature. The forgotten characteristics of humans are emotion, intellect, physical and psychological thoughts. Human embryos develop these characteristics as they develop in the uterus and once they are a newborn. The value of human embryos is the same as any other human child and adult because every human has gone through the stage of being an embryo in the uterus and developing to their full potential. Sagan supports this by saying the probability for a human embryo is more likely to become an adult. It is true that a human embryo depends on the uterus and reproduction but it is the human embryo that has the chance to be an adult and fulfill the “qualifications” of being a human. There can sometimes be cases when the development of a human embryo is interrupted by difficulties with the uterus such as ectopic pregnancy. That is the only plausible objection because there have been cases of women having to go through this difficult procedure. Yes,
