State Band Festival Essay

An unknown author wrote, “It’s only a failure if you don’t learn something.” State Band Festival, a big question revolving in our mind is should we go or not? Many things factor in this debate, but the pros outnumber the cons. We have to go to State Festival because it would benefit the students as a unique learning experience and the Lee High School Band is evolving. Going to State Band Festival serves a unique learning experience for the students participating in band. Going to State is not only about achieving a division one rating, but it is about learning that we can achieve high goals or expectations that we set for ourselves. This is a new challenge that we have to face. If we continue with our routine of going to District Band Festival every year and not facing …show more content…
You could say it’s a new era for the Lee Rebel Band. It’s time to show the school who the band is and the hard work and commitment we put in everyday. As shown in our athletic department, we do not succeed very well. So why not put our focus on something else. Our music program has had multiple achievements that are not recognized. For instance, when the wrestling team won, they were recognized through the PA. However, they did not congratulate the band on achieving a division one rating. I’m not saying that we should ignore sports, what I’m referring to is that we should indeed recognize other organizations and clubs the same way. An additional example would include the movie Mcfarland, USA. Their success started when they focused on Cross Country. In the beginning of the film, the school was focusing on football. They failed to realize their true talent, which was running. That same concept can be applied to our school. The school is failing to realize the true talent of the band while their focus is on something else. Our band is growing at an incredible rate and sooner or later we are going to become part of class B. It is time to try something

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

As students rush into class, Shannon Anderson, the White Bear South Campus Band Director, sits patiently in her office, wearing her casual band jacket with her last name on it. As students come into her office to ask her questions, she remains calm and is very friendly. “To me, caring for the students is more important than caring about the music”, says Mrs. Anderson while answering questions that range from counting music all the way to relationship advice. Mrs. Anderson’s drive for music became present while she was in band in the 6th grade. Her passion for teaching she says was different, she always loved to play school with her brother, and always wanted to become a teacher from the time she was little.…

The concert was presented by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Music’s UNC Jazz Band on Saturday, October 10th, 2015. The concert venue was located at UNC Kenan Music Building’s Rehearsal Hall. It started from 8pm to 9.40 pm. Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the UNC Jazz Band concert was a definite change in atmosphere as it was a large band consisted of students. The stage was set up really well and has a nice lighting.…

When people think of marching band, they tend to believe it is a joke or a waste of time. Marching band is a more time consuming activity that starts late in the summer. Yet the people that are not involved in the Fine Arts are more likely to have these false accusations. While most believe marching band is not a sport, is for the unpopular kids, and requires no prior skill, it in fact requires a great deal of time and dedication. A lot of marching bands practice on a daily bases, implying the dedication of skill and physical contribution it takes.…

From the start of my four year commitment to football and marching band I saw leadership all around me. My first summer of football my freshman year the seniors were prime examples of leadership. They were right there to correct form on our lifts, blocks, and set the overall example of what it meant to be a Mead football player. Later that summer I threw in marching band camp to my agenda. The drum major, my sister, lead the band with kept the entire band in order, and worked with us until our sets were flawless.…

Although failure can be upsetting or even discouraging, it can be used as a wonderful learning experience. Failure at some point is inevitable, but it you have to make the most of it. I have been fortunate enough to be the drum major for my school’s marching band both my junior and senior year. We have yet to start competitions this year, but last year was not ideal for me as a leader or the band as a whole. We start rehearsals for our competition show at the end of June; this is usually about two weeks after the school year has ended.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…
