The Pros And Cons Of Social Welfare Programs

Welfare is a word that has a very negative connotation for many people in modern america whether it it brings to mind a lazy unemployed person taking advantage of a broken system or some degenerate trading food stamps for cash so they can buy beer. A lot of people do not like the way the current system is handled and, resent the poor because they feel their hard earned money is being stolen from then. However these programs also give life to families who have simply fallen on hard times. The general dislike of social welfare programs especially SSI which is more commonly known as disability has created a divide within the classes where those in the diminishing middle look even more unfavorabely down than they do enviously up. There is a difference between welfare and unemployment, for someone to receive unemployment they first must have worked and paid taxes themselves. This as well as Social Security is known as an entitlement program unlike welfare programs these programs require a person to have contributed to society in some way. Entitlement programs are the programs that are a hindrance to american society, they hurt the general welfare of contributing members of American Society. They created a safety net that far too many people are landing on to the point that our populouses taxes are becoming very close to being unable to support it. The current systems in place obviously are not working correctly, people have acquired a severely negative viewpoint of what they believe they are paying for especially some of the entitlement programs that they may never get access to when the young working population can no longer support those in retirement.
