The inevitable force of technology will forever change and advance to further our lives no matter how much anyone resist from it. One of the forms of technology currently progressing in the development and testing stage is the self-driving trucks. This form of technology will one day become the normal, average thing you see in your everyday life especially driving down the highway to get to your destination. Self-driving trucks will be shocking to think of at first but there are many positive effects that can and will affect the way we do things. Self-driving trucks will open and close job opportunities like the position for truck drivers because there wouldn’t need to be a human behind a self-driving truck if it’s automated but other jobs …show more content…
Issues would in time develop around the idea of self-driving trucks like who’s at fault especially in fatal car accidents between the software developers, car, and the drivers themselves. Self-driving trucks will continue to progress in a way where it will have many positive impacts towards autonomous vehicle companies and everyday life citizens as well as showcasing some minor effects of how negative effects can set back the changes of our everyday lives. Self-driving trucks has a positive impact towards the ideas of saving fuel efficiently and safely driving the heavy contained shipment to the coordinated destination for the company. In the article published by The Atlantic media company, “Could Self-Driving Trucks Be Good for Truckers?”, Madrigal, Alexis C. argued that companies for self-driving trucks can create more jobs instead of the negative thoughts that it will put truck driving jobs away forever. Madrigal points out that “trucking jobs will not be endangered by autonomous driving, and in the brightest scenarios, as in new research by Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group, there may be an increase in trucking jobs as more self-driving vehicles are introduced”(Madrigal). She sheds some light on the questions and concerns within the trucking industry of the loss in jobs if autonomous driving took over in several years. The article confirms that, “because the more self-driving trucks you have and the higher utilization they have, the more jobs it creates.” That statement is true due to the fact that the self-driving trucks are not perfect. The trucks can break down in the middle of the highway and the company will have to call in the towing trucks anyway but if a person was in the truck, he or she can perform varieties of basic fix and continue on the trip (Madrigal). Self-driving trucks will make truck drivers’ lives better and easier because truck drivers’ lives are difficult when there are people who haven’t seen their families for months and even years.
