Jack Price, forty-nine years old, was viciously beaten by two New York men. These men held a strong hatred towards Price even though he was a complete stranger to them. The affects of the beating on Price were tremendous: a broken jaw, several broken ribs, two collapsed lungs, and a lacerated spleen. “What was the reason for these two men attacking an unknown man on the streets of New York,” one might ask? Well, Price was openly gay. Falling in love is not something that one can make happen, it just does. Imagine meeting a soul mate after years of searching and wanting to get married, but the law makes it a possibility for that marriage to ever occur. This feeling has been the center of many same-sex couples’s lives ever since our country …show more content…
According to Jeffrey M. Jones, 81% of people with no religious affiliation support same-sex marriage, and only 48% of Catholics are supportive of same-sex marriages. The very first amendment of the United States Bill of Rights states that each individual has religious freedom, and anyone who lacks it shall be protected. Claiming that homosexuals should not be allowed to have a legal marriage because it may offend people who’s religion goes against it is unconstitutional. The immorality of states making laws against same-sex marriages simply because some religions consider it to be a sin is astounding. All religions have different beliefs. The difference in everyone’s beliefs is the reasoning behind why the United States has a separation of church and state. For example, if a law was passed forcing all citizens to celebrate the Catholic tradition, Lent, any religion that is not closely related to Catholicism would be angered. Marriage applies the same way. Not everyone should have to be married to the opposite sex if that is not how they wish to live their own life. No one should be forced to behave a certain way because all people have different …show more content…
According to the Family Research Council, it is important for a child to have both a mother and father figure. “Mothers excel in providing children with emotional security and in reading the physical and emotional cues of infants….[and] fathers excel in reducing antisocial behavior and delinquency in boys and sexual activity in girls.” The affects both parents have on their child are unique, but homosexuals are just as capable of raising a child as a typical married couple. Assumptions should not hold any weight when determining the laws of the land. http://news.discovery.com/human/genetics/parents-gender-children.htm Discovery News has found through research and studies that homosexual couples are just as capable of raising a child as heterosexual couples. In fact, it has been found that homosexual parents raise children with greater self-esteem and not as many behavioral

We do not have anything to say about any other person’s marriage so why do we have a say on same sex marriage. Opposite sex couples have divorces left and right and it does not always seem stable. For all we know, same sex couples have things figured out. We should let them be married and even get divorced if they want too because that is their right. The churches have no say in what the government does and churches are the ones that always have a problem with the LGBT community.…

Gay marriage is an issue that is similar to nearly every controversial issue in America History. Most conscientious social issues in America life begin with a large majority of traditionalists pushing back, then some dramatic event event will usually occur, following that public opinion will slowly start to even out, and eventually past actions/ideas will be seen as prejudiced. It's like America collectively goes through the stages of grief before we see social justice: Denial, a lot of anger, barraging, sadness, and then finally acceptance. Along with million of Americans who felt similarly, we saw denial in Senator Jesse Helms by saying that homosexuals were morally wrenched, and believing that homosexuality was a choice. Collectively, we saw the anger in families across the country disowning their children; similarly there was anger in the viscous murder of Matthew Shepard.…

There are also many children of same sex couples who go on to be psychologically healthy members of society. They are not traumatized by being raised by gay marriage but often end up being upstanding citizens who are more understanding and empathetic than other members of society. It’s also important to note that many children who identify as gay, lesbian or transgender or often physically, verbally or mentally abused by their parents due to their sexual orientation. Is it not better that they are raised in a home that nurtures them rather that a home that abuses them? It’s unreasonable to think that opposing sex couples are better suited to raise…

Children need both their mother and father especially girls during puberty who are more complex than boys. In most cases, children raised without a mother often tend to lack emotional security and advice only a mother can provide, and children especially girls who grow up without their fathers have no respect for authority and often engage in early sexual activity. It is also more than likely to occur that children who are raised in a homosexual environment tend to experience more hardships in life. It is also obvious that no matter how much love someone has for their partner’s children, there will always be a hole in the child’s heart, a hole that can only be filled with the other parent. Allowing same sex marriage is a burden because of the fact that it adds to the divorce rates in the system putting more children in danger of having a single parent.…

On June 26, 2015, LBGT+ activist groups rejoiced as the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage believing that a ban of it violated the 14th amendment of the Constitution. This didn’t help stop any hatred of same-sex couples and it seemed that the world would implode due to the court’s decision However, backlash soon followed, leading to an Appeals court, saying it didn’t violate the 14th amendment and many “Christian” groups saying the ruling by the Supreme Court goes against the bible. In the case of Obergefell vs. Hodges, the ruling has influenced the United States to take steps in a more progressive future where everyone has equal rights and helping America begin its transition into a more positive light with supporting this decision. Much of the backlash from this decision was due to these different “Christian” activist groups who said that same-sex marriage went against their religious liberties and violated the bible in Leviticus. Which is quite hilarious as none of them probably adhere to the teaching in the book of Leviticus like no eating shellfish and no mixing different materials to wear like a cotton, polyester blend…

Our country has been founded on the principle that every human being has certain inalienable rights as long as those rights do not violate another 's. Numerous written documents have been based on the same idea throughout history. For example, Article Three of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states clearly, “everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person”. The Declaration continues, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status” (Article 2). Additionally, it is proven that gay and lesbian consumers have a significantly higher purchasing power than heterosexual consumers. Thus, it would make sense for corporations to market their product and services to this market, however, that is not the case. In fact, there are controversial issues regarding the incorporation of gay and lesbian themes in advertisements and other marketing practices (Vargas 26).…

Gay marriage has been an issue discussed for many years and is a hot topic in the current presidential election, so I chose an article concerning whether gay marriage should be legally recognized. Unfortunately, when I used the CQ Research database to look at topics for this lesson there were the most recent article was from 2013. The article I have chosen by Kenneth Jost, “Should same-sex unions be legally recognized?” was written in 2003 is somewhat of a mute-point since it was federally legalized in a SCOTUS decision in June 2015; however, it remains to be a highly debated political issue. Both authors, Mary Bonauto and Ron Crews, summarizing the pros/cons of the article clearly presented their positions on the argument, but it seems…

Those who support marriage equality back most of their claims with the Fourteenth Amendment, which emphasizes the equal treatment of all people under the law (Legal Information Institute). Those advocating religious freedom back their claims with the First Amendment, which ensures that the government does not interfere with the free exercise of religion, or create an official religion (Sidlow and Henschen 77).…

Why? Being gay is natural. Sure, moral fundamentalists may think it is a sin, but who are they to deny rights to those who are doing something that is just as right as a man loving a woman? Gays couples can be models of family life, offering just as much love and support for children as hetersexual couples. Gender should not be covered by marriage law, as the constitution protects US citizens from gender discrimination.…

They could argue that a child shouldn 't be denied a father or mother role in their life but they are being oblivious to the fact that the parent of the child also has a family that may consist of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles that have kids themselves. Basically meaning that this child would indeed have two moms or two dads that raise them but would have many other family members that could play a big role in their life as well to fill in the spots that their parents couldn’t. Will children being raised by homosexual couples question their own sexuality?
