In 2003, Lawrence v. Texas landmark case struck down statewide laws against sodomey making it legal to be gay in all fifty states. In 2015, gay marriage and same sex adoption was made legal across all fifty states. “Don 't ask, don’t tell” was repealed in 2011 making it legal to openly serve in the military. America is funny in the sense that every state has its own laws for discrimination based on sexual orientation varies from state to state, some things are protected in some states and there are some that are not. Same sex “activities”are a punishable offence with fines or up to seven years in prison if men are caught in these activities. There are no laws to apply if females are found in these activities. It is very illegal to be LGBT in UAE as the punishments for being caught include deportation, fines and imprisonment up to fourteen years [Dubai]. Many of these laws exist in the name of religion and LGBT travelers are warned to proceed with caution when deciding whether to vacation there.
